MFT understands that sustainability is the efficient combination of economy and ecology.
For us, the responsible use of resources already started with the company building in Mayen, which was newly constructed in 2017, taking into account ecological, economic and social aspects, equipped with the latest technology and operated efficiently using only renewable energies.
Conversion of the vehicle fleet
Most of the MFT fleet has already been converted to hybrid and fully electronic drive technology and the in-house electric charging stations are also available to our visitors for charging their vehicles.
Low CO2 emissions in production
A significant part of MFT's portfolio consists of aluminium products whose production is highly energy-intensive.
Conscious of our global responsibility we take care to purchase from producers with low CO2 emissions.
Use of recycled materials
The conscious pursuit of sustainability as a guiding principle of MFT is also reflected in our strong commitment to the secondary aluminium market. Aluminium scrap from our forging plant is 100% recycled. The raw materials we use for forging are manufactured one hundred percent from recycled materials.

Our customers are expressing the desire for a sustainable supply. MFT actively supports this by developing and implementing recycling concepts that help the customers to benefit economically from the use of the scrap produced and also allow them to act ecologically and responsibly in the process.

Our Local Commitment – Driven by a Genuine Connection to Our Region
Climate change poses profound challenges to the forests of Central Europe—and thus also to the Mayen City Forest: Droughts, storms, bark beetle infestations, invasive pests, and heavy rainfall are increasingly taking their toll on ecological systems. In particular, the spruce stands planted extensively in earlier decades are severely damaged or have already died.
The city of Mayen manages approximately 1,700 hectares of municipal forest and has been pursuing a consistently sustainable, forward-looking forest strategy for many years. The goal is to establish a stable, climate-resilient mixed forest—with a high proportion of native deciduous trees and conifers suited to the site. The focus is not on short-term economic returns, but rather on ecological function, the preservation of biodiversity, the protection of natural resources, and the long-term usability of the forest.
A key component of this strategy is what is known as natural regeneration: the forest regenerates on its own—that is, using the genetic material of trees that have already grown for generations under the specific conditions of the site. This ensures that the young stand is highly adaptable and avoids the risks associated with genetically unsuitable non-native plants.
This natural forest development is supplemented by targeted plantings using locally sourced seeds—primarily Douglas fir and silver fir, two conifer species that have already proven themselves in the Mayen Forest under changing climatic conditions. For this demanding form of forest renewal, the city relies on long-term, reliable partners from the region.
As a company rooted in Mayen, we feel a special commitment to this responsibility. Many of our employees live here, use the city forest for recreation, and experience the changes in nature firsthand. Our commitment to the city forest is therefore an expression of a shared mindset within the company: responsibility does not end at the company gate. Through our close connection to the region and our personal dedication, we aim to help preserve the forest as a living, working, and recreational space for current and future generations.
As a company in the aluminum industry, we are well aware of the environmental challenges facing our sector. This makes it all the more important for us to take responsibility not in abstract terms, but in a concrete and transparent way. We view our commitment to the Mayen City Forest not as a mere formal offset measure, but as a conscious extension of our own sustainability efforts. Regional forest development projects create lasting environmental value, strengthen stable ecosystems, and contribute to climate protection—in a way that is long-term, transparent, and immediately effective.
This partnership demonstrates that sustainability begins right on our doorstep—and has an impact far beyond the city limits.
Our Global Commitment
We go one step further: Through targeted investments in high-quality climate protection projects, in 2025 we not only successfully offset 131 tonnes—equivalent to 50% of our reported CO₂ emissions—but also contributed to 10 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. These initiatives promote renewable energy, protect valuable ecosystems, and sustainably improve living conditions for people worldwide.
In doing so, we are sending a strong signal in support of active climate protection.
